Key Drivers of Energy Efficiency & Access in Africa

Overview

Africa’s rapid economic growth poses a daunting energy challenge, which is compounded by rising expectations of improved resilience and sustainability.

Renewable energy and energy efficiency can be used in tandem to address issues of energy access. Renewables, as in other parts of the world, is becoming a more popular option in Africa, not only because of environmental concerns but also because they are a more cost-effective option. It is critical to support the continued growth of modern renewables in Africa.

Evidence suggests that energy efficiency can significantly improve the economics of energy access by lowering the initial investment and ongoing fuel costs, as well as improving system reliability and performance in areas where existing supply resources are insufficient.

According to some estimates, using currently available energy efficiency measures could result in the delivery of universal access to modern energy services using 50–85 percent less energy than is currently estimated to be required.

This webinar will explore insights into the key drivers of energy efficiency and energy access in Africa.

  • Delivering vast socio-economic benefits for Africa
  • Energy efficiency measures
  • Leapfrogging to technologies for a more sustainable energy access
  • Climate-friendly power strategy
  • Leverage renewables and distributed energy resources to achieve universal energy access
